The Air and Missile Defense Operational Test Suite (AMDOTS) is the NEC/NEA test and evaluation data warehouse and remote data collection capability supporting Technical Performance Evaluations (TPEs) of the covered ITW/AA, missile defense, NC3, and space warning systems. The Journeyman Engineer manages and controls AMDOTS Information Technology (IT) equipment using the latest approved server operating systems and performs the system and network administration functions that keep AMDOTS recoverable, secure, available, and performing. This position creates and tests backups, verifies data integrity, implements access controls, maximizes network uptime and performance, applies security vulnerability patches, performs system-wide integrity tests, and maintains the system administrator policy, configuration control and management plan, disaster recovery and contingency plan, and mission-functionality system schema. The position also supports network set-up, configuration, and troubleshooting and operating system installation for AMDOTS components as directed, working with the Senior AMDOTS Data Warehouse and Data Collection Engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and control AMDOTS IT equipment using the latest approved server operating systems.
  • Ensure system recoverability by creating and testing backups of AMDOTS data.
  • Ensure system integrity by verifying and/or helping to verify data integrity.
  • Ensure database security by defining and/or implementing access controls to the data.
  • Ensure system availability by maximizing network uptime, and system performance by maximizing network performance within budgetary constraints.
  • Enforce full system security while allowing users to efficiently access the data, without compromise to data access.
  • Apply security vulnerability patching as required.
  • Perform system-wide integrity tests to verify maximum throughput and efficiency is being obtained.
  • Support maintaining the system administrator policy, configuration control and management plan, and disaster recovery and contingency plan for management of the AMDOTS systems.
  • Maintain a system schema by mission functionality for the AMDOTS systems.
  • Provide reports on the AMDOTS systems at the request of the Government.
  • As directed and as clearance permits, support set-up, configuration, and support of AMDOTS internal and external networks; troubleshoot network performance issues and recommend resolutions; and support operating system and application installation and maintenance on AMDOTS equipment.
  • Support development and updating of procedures to maintain AMDOTS equipment and recommend upgrades, patches, new applications, and equipment.
  • Ensure no harmful code is introduced into AMDOTS and that system configurations do not detrimentally affect the covered systems or NEC/NEA networks.
  • Complete all specified annual training to maintain necessary accesses and certifications, including USSTRATCOM information and computer security refresher training.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in internal/external network set-up, configuration, and support; network performance issues; operating system installation and maintenance; and application installation and maintenance.
  • Three (3) or more years of demonstrated relevant experience in testing, analyzing, planning, operations, analytical studies, or systems development related to military space programs, simulations, and systems.
  • Three (3) or more years of demonstrated relevant experience, in any combination, with the following systems: ITW/AA Situation Monitoring; TES; MD systems that are also ITW/AA, COBRA DANE, and C2BMC; NC3 systems; and space surveillance and control (space warning) systems.
  • Must possess at least an active Secret security clearance, in place within 30 days after task order award or prior to commencement of work.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must be able to pass a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) background check for installation access and be eligible for a Common Access Card (CAC).

Desired Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility, or eligibility to obtain TS/SCI, to enable support of AMDOTS RMU network and operating system tasks at TS/SCI-controlled facilities.
  • Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II baseline certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE) in accordance with DoD Manual 8570.01-M / DoD 8140, supporting privileged access on Government information systems.
  • Five (5) or more years of system and network administration experience in a DoD or other classified Government environment.
  • Experience administering current Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and Microsoft SQL Server hosts, including backup and recovery, access control, patch management, and performance monitoring.
  • Experience with FreeBSD or other Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with DoD security vulnerability management and compliance, including Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) application, vulnerability scanning, and remediation tracking.
  • Experience authoring or maintaining system administrator policies, configuration control and management plans, disaster recovery and contingency plans, and system schema or architecture documentation.
  • Experience supporting remote or distributed IT equipment at multiple Government sites, including coordination with site personnel for installations and troubleshooting.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within CONUS to AMDOTS sites as directed.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, network engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent technical training.
